Our First Artist's Market

Our First Artist's Market

As an online business, I have the ability to offer products to people from all over the country, and I love that flexibility and the agency I am afforded as a business owner. But let's be honest, there's nothing quite like those face to face, one on one interactions with families. As I have been expanding my product lines since opening "shop," I knew I wanted to pursue some in person pop-up and market opportunities.

Atlanta, where Weithaus is based, is home to some stellar artist's markets and festivals over the warm summer months. It seems like there is something to attend nearly every weekend from May to September! I was lucky enough to come across an event group called Cryptid Creatives, which organizes pop-up markets around Atlanta each month. And in May, I signed up as a vendor for my very first market!

My entire business is built off my love for quilting and creating one-of-a-kind family keepsakes. The first product I made for the shop were heirloom Baby Quilts, and as I began to get organized and prepare for the market I knew I wanted to expand on that idea. I also wanted to focus on practical items that were as useful to parents as they were beautiful. And then I sat down and got sewing.

After the quilts, I started with baby bonnets. Because what's cuter than a baby bonnet? Almost nothing. And boy are they cute. We've got bonnets with brims and we've got bonnets with ruffles and it's hard for me to have a favorite.

Next I wanted to offer newborn appropriate toys, which led me to makie mini quilt crinkle toys, with the most delicious crinkle sound thanks to (machine washable and dry-able!) crinkle film.  We also offered quilt rattle teethes, with a gentle pillow rattle and a beechwood teething ring.

One of the most special parts of this market experience was teaming up with my mom, who is a talented artist and who contributed some beautiful watercolor paintings perfect for any nursery.

It was such a delight interacting with families and individuals over the course of the day. Our next market will be on June 14th, at Harmony Park in Decatur's Oakhurst neighborhood. We are so looking forward to it, and hope to see you there!
